- The Blue Ridge Highlands
What images do these words conjure up? Pristine mountain views,
fresh air, a slower pace of life? How about the very best in
outdoor recreation? Or, the best in arts and entertainment? Or,
the best in history and culture?
-
- Yes, we are the Blue Ridge Highlands
of Virginia, and we have all this and more! From soaring mountain
peaks to cool, comfortable valleys, the Blue Ridge Highlands
of Virginia await you! We are proud of our mountain heritage
and why shouldnt we be? From the Carter Family to Dr. Ralph
Stanley, our music is the backbone of our heritage. After all,
this area is known as the Birthplace of Country Music and has
produced some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry.
However, music is but a part of our people. Some of the worlds
best authors have called the Blue Ridge Highlands home, not to
mention some of the greatest artists. We are home to four established
theatres - including the State Theatre of Virginia - scores of
art galleries, and dozens of festivals that celebrate our heritage
and culture throughout the year. Oh
and did we mention
our great outdoors? We have seven state parks, the second oldest
river in the world, some of the best trails in the world, and
fishing and hunting that is second to none. But the best part
of the Blue Ridge Highlands is our people.
